In â€Å"The Yellow Wallpaper† by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, any reader with any ability to interpret can see that this subject matter is discussed throughout the text. But which characters are really insane and what evidence is there to prove this? The narrator’s condition is a type of nervous depression that can lead to obsessive â€Å"fancies† and imaginations. From the perspective of understanding oneself an d accepting the present situation’s circumstances, the main character is indeed the sanest person in the story. At first, the protagonist talks about the house that she and her husband were to stay at for a short while. She does not hesitate to describe what her first impressions were on the house because she states that it was rather strange building that had a haunted effect from looking at it. Not only this, but she also introduces her husband and physician, John. John is described as a person with â€Å"no patience with faith, an intense horror of superstition, and he scoffs openly at any talk of things not to be felt and seen and put down in figures† (Gilman 364). Not only is the narrator consciously observant of her circumstances, but she is able to think for herself and formulate logical claims. For example, Gilman writes about how the narrator is frequently seen as a schizophrenic, possessed, and absolutely insane individual whose mind only continues to deterio rate rather than an individual who understands the situation and can conscientiously create questions and thoughts about what she is experiencing. Individuals with fixed mindset do not believe in their potential; they believe that each person has just a certain amount of intelligence which is unchangeable. On the other hand, the person with the growth mindset believes that everyone can improve their abilities through effort and education. The process of motivation works differently with different mindsets. Students with fixed mindset try to avoid the feeling of being unsuccessful by keeping them away from challenges and mistakes; therefore, they simply choose to stay in their comfort zone. What Dweck emphasizes here is that the students should be praised for their effort, this way they can maintain their confidence and overcome their obstacles. Dwecks research has immense significance in the field of education, because it proves that individuals can grow their intelligence through effort. Analyzing myself, I am a growth mindset in most of the cases. I am not super smart, but I am hard worker, and I am always open to learning even if it takes me more time. Sometimes, I can also be a fixed mindset; for example, when I am doing something that I do not believe that it is useful in my life, I procrastinate. In my opinion, being a growth mindset can be a real challenge, because you have to be a resilient person, and it might be not so easy. However, Dweck shows us through her research, that the students praised for their effort are more motivated to study and more successful than the others praised for their intelligence, with that, it make me feel that I am in the right way to reach my objectives. The human mind fascinates me. I have learned lots of interesting points through this article, for example, how important is to challenge ourselves and do not be afraid to make mistakes. Regardless, if you consider yourself smart or not, the most important thing is to connect hard work to self-esteem, and try to overcome your obstacles. When we talk about kids and how to teach them and what is the right way to praise them, Dweck in my opinion, presented an important point about praise them for their effort. Notes of a Native Son Summary James Baldwin uses a lot of ethos in his essay to show his position as a black man encountering the hardships during his era. Despite being a generation of now free men, Baldwin tells his everyday situation and responses he received that show that he was not close at all to being free in the society. It is with this story we get to see his idea of fighting the injustice begin to bloom, and led him to become a well-known writer exploring the social issues in the mid-20th American era. Baldwin made it clear that before he developed a certain hatred towards the whites, he never felt that there was a difference between his white friends and his black friends and everyone was treated the same. This is still a situation we see today where children would play with other children regardless of their background but as they grew up, society puts the stereotypes in their heads and saw the world differently, in which Baldwin would grow up to see the world different as well. If there is a revolvi ng theme around this story, it is the theme of birth. In the beginning, there was a physical birth of James Baldwin’s sibling, moments after his father died. This could metaphorically translate as his father’s legacy being carried down through another child. James Baldwin Notes of a Native Son Analysis The ending was a birth of an idea, of how his father’s death and all the experiences Baldwin had encountered translated into an idea of fighting the injustice he was receiving. One word that stood out to me in the passage was perdition. Baldwin’s father claims that Baldwin’s naà ¯ve perspective of the whites was going to send him to perdition. Perdition has an extremely strong meaning, and in the Christian context, it is used to describe people who chose to turn away from God and thus cannot be saved nor forgiven, in a way being sent to the eternal pits of hell. Baldwin’s father is sending out a warning of what is yet to come for Baldwin, who would see how his view about the world will be changed forever by his life in New Jersey and that one American Diner situation. I am an international college student from Vietnam, and have been through twelve grades with lots of memories. One thing I could say is the interval time between my sixth and eighth grade was the time that I cherish the most. It is not only because it was my most successful time with a bunch of fabulous achievements I obtained, but also because literally it was my great pleasure to be instructed by a very thoughtful teacher. She was my Mathematics teacher, and her name is Mrs. Nguyen. I did enjoy most of her lectures in class. Thanks to being taught by a great teacher, Mathematics gradually became my most favorite subject. At that time, Vietnamese teachers received just a small amount of salary every month due to the government did not have much money. They could have a good life if they live alone, and only spend money for their own. However, if they have a family, their husband or wife needs to have much better income to run the house and nurture their children. My teacher and her husband both do educational job. As a result, they do not have good income enough to run their house and to pay tuitions for their kids. Therefore, those who had the same situation like this usually opened extra classes at their home for a little income. The government prohibited teachers to give extra lectures at their home because they worried that if teachers give lectures at home, students would get bored of listening lectures in class. Childhood Memory As a child everything was so much more simple. Day after day I only had one objective on my mind, and that was to go outside and have as much fun as I possibly could before the sun went down and it became dark, that was when I had to be home. My cousins lived right next to me so i can always remember going outside and swimming in our swimming pool, and then we would go over to our grandmothers house for lunch, she lived on the other side of my house right next door, I will never forget going over their amd smelling the freshly baked cookies she always made us.There are alot of things i can remember from my childhood but everytime I think back this one seems to always stand out the most. I will never forget the early morning that my dad woke me up on my birthday. He woke me up and told me to get ready because we had to go. I remember asking him over and over again why I was up so early, and where in the world do we have to go its my birthday what about when all my friends come over. H e told me to not worry because he had a special suprise for me, I was so excited but I couldn't think of what the suprise could be.Driving in the car felt like it was taking forever, I was so tired i fell back asleep in the back seat. Once we got there my dad woke me up again but this time when i opened my eyes i saw my cousin michael and my uncle donny standing right next to my dad. I remember asking what is going on and thats when my dad showed my the fourwheeler he bought me. I couldn't have been any happier at that moment I was jumping up and down overwhelmed with joy. e put the fourwheeler on my uncles trailer but there was already one on it, thats when my cousin michael told me that his dad got him one too. I was so happy because we did everything together, nobody could sperate us. I couldn't thank my father enough on the way home, a fourwheeler was my dream I always wanted to have one they looked like so much fun all of the my older friends and cousins had one not to mention all the video games that I played with them. I couldn't believe that I finally had one now all I needed to do was learn how to ride it.This was one of my biggest challenges because nobody ever showed me how. When we finally got home my dad and my uncle took both fourwheelers off of the trailer and my dad showed me what to do how to use the gas, turn and how to stop with the brake. He turned the fourwheeler on for me and I sped away having no clue what I was doing, my cousin followed right behind me but he already knew how to ride because his brother had a fourwheeler and he taught him what to do. We rode all the way to the fields in my backyard behind the apple orchard.Right before the field there's a hill that has a deer feeder on it close to the woods my dad hunts in, i decided to try and drive up the hill I guess i wasn't ready to do something that experianced because when I got halfway up the hill I stalled the fourwheeler and hit the back brake and the fourwheeler flipped over and I fell off rolling down the hill the fourwheeler landed on my hand. My dad came running down to me and picked me up because I was screaming thinking my hand was broken, I always over exaggerated everything when I was younger.I went up to the house and put ice on my hand because it was really swollen. That ended my day because when my mom came home she was so worried she didn't want to ride my fourwheeler anymore because she thought it was too dangerous. I tried to tell her that it was an accident and I just did something I shouldn't have tried yet. She told me I could ride it again if i waited for my hand to heal, but of course I didn't listen to anything my parents told me because I was a wild child.So the very next day I was back out riding again with my cousin but this time we took it a little bit easier and went slow and I wouldn't dare attempt the hill again. My mom was ferious when she found out that I was riding when I wasn't suppose to be. I was bound and determined to b e the better than my cousin someday but I doubted it because he was two years older than me and he was always bigger than me so he had an advantage because we had the same fourwhellers and i was a little bit to small for it.Everyday we would wake up at the same time around eight in the morning and we both would meet at my barn where we kept the fourwheelers and we would go up to the house and fill up our tanks with gas and go ride in the fields behind my house and across the street. we would come home at dinner time so filthy, we would be covered in mud from head to toe but we didn't care at all because we were kids just having the best time of our lives. Now that I reflect upon my childhood I realize that I do not regret any choices that I made because that's what made me happy.I had alot of fun as a child and I miss every second of it, I didn't have a worry in the world. Now that I am getting older and about to graduate from high school I know that those days are over. At this poi nt in my life I need to get down and stay focused and determined to live a successful life, I feel that if I put my mind to it I will be able to do it. Just like how determined I was to be better than my cousin everyday I practiced, and I soon became much better doing things that he still to this day can not do. My childhood was perfect and I wouldn't change anything about it, these memories will live on forever with me.

Yo Ho, A Writers Life for Me Act one, scene one. Interior, Heim family room, night. Fade in on a family of four about to press play on the DVD menu of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. A mom, Erin, and a dad, Rich, are talking to a young girl, Sammy. â€Å"We’ll tell you when there’s a scary part so you can close your eyes,† says Erin. Sammy is in first grade and about seven years younger than the suggested PG-13 rating, but she watches every second of the high-budget, large production pirate film and a buccaneer is born that night. Sammy, of course, is me. I had begged and begged my parents to let me watch the movie and after watching it first, they approved it for six-year-old me to try. They told me when I should shut my eyes and I ignored them so I wouldn’t miss a second of the adventure. I always needed to know what was going to happen next. My dad even tried to cover my eyes with his hand to protect me from particularly scary moments, but I would duck and dodge him every time, and instead of nightmares, I was given inspiration. I had never been a kid who showed more than mild interest in any one thing. I enjoyed princesses and cartoons and puppies as much as any other first grade girl, but I loved pirates. I thought they were the coolest. I wanted to be a pirate for Halloween every year, I carried a plastic sword around Disneyland instead of a princess wand, and wore my favorite hat everyday, a pink baseball cap with Jack Sparrow on it. If that hat still fit me today, I would probably be wearing it . However, the effect that the movie had on me was more than just a passion for the pirates themselves. I became interested in stories about or with pirates and I wanted to start telling my own. The first piece of fiction I ever wrote was about a young female pirate captain who gets marooned on an island of cannibals and has to blend in with the natives. I was in second grade and eagerly awaiting the second film of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and learning everything about it before it came out. I learned from the trailers that in this movie, Dead Man’s Chest, Captain Sparrow has a run-in with a tribe of cannibals, which is where I drew the inspiration. It wasn’t the violence that resonated with me, it was the promise of an exciting adventure. Pirates showed me everything a good story needed: suspense, action, romance, and a diverse cast of characters. I hadn’t quite reached an age yet where I could understand that the on-screen romanticization of pirates wasn’t a historically accurate portrayal. I didn’t care that pirates hurt people and stole things because that’s not what those movies were about. In the last century, pi rates, especially those of ‘the golden age of piracy’, have become symbols of freedom, adventure, and strength. My core values as a person are still centered around those things today, fifteen years since the first time I was immersed in the fantastic world of Disney pirates. Every year, a new film in the franchise was released, I loyally saw every single one right away- even as critics and mainstream audiences fell out of love with them. I’m the first to admit that the later films in the franchise are not cinematic masterpieces like the original, but I could never stop loving these movies. They have always served and will always serve as inspiration for my writing. Over the years, I continued to write stories of pirate girls which eventually evolved into fanfiction directly related to the films, and it was through fan sites dedicated to the movies that I started sharing my work with other people. There were people out there who were just as into Pirates as I was and they gave me a platform to share my writing and grow as a storyteller. About ten years after the original film was released, I took my first screenwriting class in my freshman year of high school. On our very first day, my teacher, Ms. Levine, passed around a few pages of a script that she said was a great introduction to the basics of screenwriting. Lo and behold, it was The Curse of the Black Pearl. She explained how the structure of the film could be considered a ‘perfect’ script in that it demonstrated everything she was going to teach us about the foundation of a good screenplay. The act structure, plot pacing, scene writing, and other screenwriting basics were all, in her exact words, â€Å"near flawless.† So imagine how easy it was for me to fall in love with screenwriting. I was already a storyteller, I was immediately taught how to write a script by studying my favorite film, and I was given a new medium to bring my passion to life. In that class, I wrote my first feature-length script about a girl with a proclivity for telling fantastical stories and a longing for adventure who gets swept up in a race for pirate treasure. She learns how to handle a sword, read a map, and sail a vessel, but most importantly she learns that self-confidence will carry her further than any ship can. That’s not the actual logline I used to pitch the movie to my class, but it is the most straightforward way to show how I mirrored my own life and view of myself into my writing- and ‘pirate fantasy’ was the obvious genre choice. Cut to: interior, bedroom, afternooon. Twenty-one-year-old Sammy sits at her desk, Jolly Roger tattoo visible on her shoulder. She’s typing furiously on her laptop.
